How To Get Urine Sample From Toddler Not Potty Trained
I am at my wits cease. I need to go a urine sample from my almost two-year-quondam DD (who is not potty-trained). Unfortunately, she has not been drinking much due to affliction (thus the order for a urine sample). I have been trying to put her on the potty but she protests (even with lollipop and tv bribes). I tried the urine collection numberless but they leak likewise much. Whatsoever other tricks to suggest? Let me know if you've had a catheter placed as well - information technology may be where we're headed.

How about taking off the diaper and putting on simply those old style plastic underwear they sell to get outside underwear when potty preparation. They are made past Gerber and they sell them at Target.
Also, I know it's not what you lot asked, but if she isn't drinking much have you tried popsicles?

Here's what I would try:
LOTS AND LOTS OF WATER, and sit her on a potty (with a tray for playing) in front of the TV for a one-half-hour testify. Sit down with her, play.
Would that work?

Buy the most offensively colored and branded juice production out there. Bratz Doll Fruit Flop Fruit-flavored (contains no fruit juice) Kidz Drinkable, or something like that. Permit her have as much as she wants, with a curly straw. Put the potty in front of the Television, and the the kid on the potty.

I hate to tell yous this but they often utilise a syringe to extract the urine out of younger babies. You might demand to prepare for that.

My two yr one-time needed a urine sample at the ER because of a high fever (105, it turned out she had a UTI). Information technology took the ER doc less than 1 minute to practise the catheter. DD was non happy about it only it was over pretty quickly.

Your dr should actually use a catheter to obtain a clean sample as you will non be able to do this at home. Run into beneath from webmd:
What the doctor might do is place a sterile plastic bag with agglutinative edges over your toddler's genitals later on carefully cleaning the area. But this arroyo doesn't always avert contagion by pare bacteria, so a test done on this kind of urine sample isn't very authentic.
Most likely, the doctor will use a catheter to obtain a sample. He'll clean your toddler's genitals with a sterile solution and put a piffling drape over the surface area. So the doctor will thread a tube, or catheter, upward the urethra to go urine direct from the float. This procedure is safe, routine, and takes only near a minute, merely most toddlers notice it distressing.

This is what our doctor did when my son (6 months at the time) needed to produce a urine sample.

five month old DD but had a catheter to get a urine sample. It was very fast, though I'thou sure DD was uncomfortable. A 2 yr old will scream louder than an infant, but information technology'south probably the best way to do it.

My ped doesnt fifty-fifty waste the time with the purse for non-potty trained kids because she said xc% of the time they go contaminated and they cease up having to cath the kid anyway.
DD has had numerous catheter since birth due to a kidney effect. It by and large involves screaming for a minute, just equally long as you lot get someone who knows how to do it, information technology'southward fast. Also, that minute of pain tin save a kid from a kidney infection from an untreated UTI, then retrieve of it that mode.

OP here. Thanks for anybody's thoughts! DD was having temps in the 100-101 range for a week; lethargic; not eating or drinking much. Bloodwork came back fine; strep test negative. And then the next step is a UA. She has been fever-costless since Dominicus so I am reluctant to get the catheter put in. Her appetite is slowly coming back to normal. I'll talk to the ped tomorrow and take it from there. Once more, thank you for everyone's experiences.

I second the get-her-to-drink anything approach. So, with the help of your husband, take off her diaper and put her hands in cold h2o. She will pee, for sure you just may also take a mess to clean up later. Practiced luck!
